Book Review: The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff

Tao of Pooh (hardback) The how of Pooh? The Tao of who? The Tao of Pooh! ... in which it is revealed that one of the world's great Taoist masters isn't Chinese ... or a venerable philosopher ... but is in fact none other than that effortlessly calm, still, reflective bear, A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh (as was on the back cover of the book).

You will compare yourself and others to the characters in the Winnie-the-Pooh stories where Eeyore frets, Piglet hesitates, Rabbit calculates, Owl pontificates, and Pooh just is—and that's a clue to the secret wisdom of the Taoists. You'll discover that within each of us there is an Owl, a Rabbit, an Eeyore, and a Pooh. For too long, we have chosen the way of Owl and Rabbit. Then, like Eeyore, we complain about the results, but that accomplishes nothing. If we are smart, we will choose the way of Pooh. As if from far away, it calls to us with the voice of a child's mind. It may be hard to hear at times, but it is important just the same, because without it, we will never find our way through the forest.

I highly recommend this little book. It reads fast, is delightful, and full of opening ourselves up to the possibility of viewing things as a child again...
