The 5th World Bonsai Convention will be held May 28-31, 2005 in the beautiful and inspiring capital city of Washington, D.C. This is only the second time in the event's 20+ year history that the convention will be held in the United States. The World Bonsai Convention will offer the rare opportunity to see many of the foremost bonsai and penjing masters in the world demonstrate their expert techniques. In addition to workshops conducted by outstanding practitioners, lectures will be given by the world's most prominent scholars on bonsai, viewing stones, and pots. Exhibits of outstanding bonsai and penjing specimens, viewing stones, and pots will be on display throughout the convention. As well, numerous vendors will display and sell bonsai-related items. In conjunction with the convention, the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington will showcase both it's permanent bonsai display as well as multiple exhibits including I.C. Su's magnificent antique bonsai pot collection. A dinner and tours of the Arboretum's National Bonsai and Penjing Museum are scheduled for Sunday, May 29th. The Convention is the fifth world convention under the auspices of the World Bonsai Friendship Federation. The Federation, founded in 1989 by former Nippon Bonsai Association Chairman Saburo Kato, John Y. Naka, and visionary bonsai artists, was created to help promote world peace and friendship through bonsai and its allied arts. The event will be hosted by the North American Bonsai Federation and sponsored by the American Bonsai Society, Bonsai Clubs International, National Bonsai Foundation, Potomac Bonsai Association and the U.S. National Arboretum.
